To create a quantitative and qualitative easy-to-use, easy-to-measure progress tool that leverages key indicators shared in familiar sponsor company leadership assessment tools and SASE unique leadership indicators that are different from existing models / that seek to highlight Asian tendencies.

To have a tool that measures progress over a 4 year timeline for the participant to see progress over time, challenges the participant and coach (if applicable) to focus on a few key areas to help the participant grow in leadership capacity. Early users have seen results from this assessment as early as 6 months!


Envisioning and Energizing Leadership are the 2 main perceived opportunity areas for many Asian Americans.   The Center for Work-Life Policy study showed Asian employees were “unassertive” and “lacking leadership potential.”  We believe, for example, by working on Envision skills, individuals will need to be share ideas even if they are not fully formed (e.g. brainstorm) and step out of her / his comfort zone.  We believe that will help change perceptions where others will perceive the individual as having “leadership potential.  We believe that by developing Leadership skills we will reverse the Center for Work-Life Policy findings that show that Asians  are underrepresented by 250% in top executive roles in Fortune 500 companies holding 2% of executive roles while being 5% of the population.   This perception is reflected in the study that shows Asian are perceived as “quiet” and “ineffective” versus non Asians leaders.  

The Leadership Assessment could be a way for SASE to help companies value what Asians currently bring in leadership style. The average completion time for this assessment is 15-30 min.

6E Leadership Model: Overview:

The 6E Leadership Model has its origins in GE’s 4E Leadership model developed by Jack Welch identifying Energy, Energize, Edge (WHAT ARE YOU, how to stay “sharp”), Execution and P&G’s 5E Leadership model identifying Envision, Enable, Energize, Engage and Execute. SASE building on these models by adding Elastic Leadership to recognize individuals have preferred leadership styles and by challenging  them to step out of that comfort zone when necessary to grow the business and grow individually.

Elastic:  (Noun) the ability of an object or material to resume its normal shape after being stretched or compressed; stretchiness.
Elastic Leadership: to be able to transition leadership style fluidly to be effective in a variety of situations

Individuals have a preferred leadership style.  For many Asians it is “Empowering” Leadership such as working behind the scenes to make the team successful while not drawing attention to themselves nor claiming credit for her/his individual contribution.  Leadership elasticity challenges individuals to change leadership styles as needed to achieve a result that otherwise would not have been achieved and to expand the individual’s overall leadership tool kit.   After expanding the leadership tool kit, the individual can return to her/his preferred leadership state exhibited in the majority of her / his work.
